Historically, most Thursday Night Football (TNF) games tend to be uneventful.
I personally wasn’t expecting a thrilling game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles. And I was proved right.
Which is unfortunate because last season both teams were very exciting to watch. However, after the Vikings lost to the Bucs in Week 1, I had a feeling they weren’t going to be dynamic. It’s not like Philly was electric against New England in Week 1 either.
Failed Viking Raids
I will say that both teams did utilize a balanced running and passing games. But the game itself still seemed slow and sloppy for the majority of the minutes played.
Minnesota is just not as solid on defense. While they did cause Jalen Hurts difficulty in the first quarter, they couldn’t sustain much throughout the game. It doesn’t help that their offense is equally inconsistent. Yes, Kirk Cousins had great statistics, but they still lost and he caused most of the turnovers.
Because of the team they are facing, you have to maintain your statistics on both ends of the field. For the Vikings they gave one too many chances for the Eagles offense to have options to score. They had more turnovers at the end of the night, and the final score showed it.
Slow and Steady?
The Eagles are still a solid team. They’re quieter than they were last year. Or maybe the magic has just fizzled out because everyone knows that they are talented. However, both San Francisco and Dallas are equally as dominant as they were last year, so why is Philly’s start a bit lackluster?
Personally, fans and the media hype up these teams more than they should. Again back to the comparison of the Eagles, the Cowboys and the Niners. Both the Niners and the Cowboys were constantly questioned and considered the underdogs when it came to the “dominant” performance of the Eagles. However, in my opinion the Eagles schedule was significantly easier than the other two teams in contention for the best in the NFC.
Now that we saw when matched against a team with a solid defense and a magician of a quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, Philadelphia didn’t look as impressive in the SuperBowl as it shows by the end score.
Okay, back to the TNF game.
Can’t Wait for Next Week
Overall, as I said both teams were more sloppy than exciting. Again it is Week 2. So this may just be a slow start for both of them. The Eagles did have the longest season, so it may just take them a second to get their fire lit. As for Minnesota. They really need to up their defense. And offense needs to protect the ball and keep every opportunity to put points on the board.
Next week on TNF will be my San Francisco 49ers vs. the New York Giants.
Ooooooh I can’t wait!
